Kolar: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the political landscape, Congress leader M Srinivas, widely known as Councillor Srinivas and a close associate of State Home Minister G Parameshwara, was brutally hacked to death in Kolar district. The incident occurred as he was on his way to inspect an under-construction building on Mulbagal road. The assailants, six armed men on three bikes, attacked Srinivas with machetes and knives, leading to his tragic demise.
The police swiftly initiated an investigation, identifying the prime accused as Venugopal, an aide of Congress leader B Ramesh Kumar, with whom Srinivas had close ties. According to law enforcement officials, a longstanding land dispute between Srinivas and Venugopal had escalated over the construction of a bar and restaurant on the disputed land. The animosity between the two, once friends and local Congress leaders, reportedly led to this heinous crime.
On Tuesday morning, following a brief encounter, the Karnataka Police managed to arrest the three suspects: Venugopal, Manindra, and Santosh. The trio attempted to attack the police personnel during the arrest, prompting the officers to resort to firing, injuring the suspects’ legs before successfully apprehending them.
State Home Minister G Parameshwara expressed his shock and grief over the incident, remembering Srinivas as a dedicated leader and a loyal aide. The murder has raised concerns about the safety of political leaders and the escalating tensions arising from personal and political disputes in the region.
