Vehicular traffic between Mangaluru and Bengaluru came to a grinding halt after a major landslide hit National Highway-75 near Mannagundi in Kaukradi village, Kadaba taluk, Dakshina Kannada district. The incident, caused by persistent heavy rainfall, resulted in massive road blockages and long traffic delays.

Officials quickly mobilized teams and deployed earthmovers to remove the debris. Police confirmed that road clearance efforts are underway, with partial restoration expected by Thursday afternoon. Until then, commuters have been advised to take alternate routes.

Elsewhere in Dakshina Kannada, continuous rainfall has caused river levels—especially the Netravathi and its tributaries—to swell, flooding multiple low-lying regions. As a safety measure, the district administration declared a holiday for schools and pre-university colleges on Thursday.

In Mangaluru city, another significant landslide occurred late at night near the Circuit House, impacting the road that links NH-66 to the KSRTC Bus Stand at Bejai. One side of the road was rendered unusable, prompting authorities to erect barricades. Residents voiced concern, accusing civic bodies of negligence despite prior warnings and earlier minor landslides. Although sandbags were placed previously as a temporary fix, a part of the Circuit House compound collapsed this time. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Emergency crews remain on high alert across the district as rainfall continues and more landslides are feared in vulnerable zones.
