Bengaluru: An all party meeting on the Mahadayi water dispute will be chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday, October 19.
The floor leaders of political parties in both the Houses of the legislature, MPs and legislators from Gadag, Hubballi-Dharwad, Belagavi and Bagalkot are expected for the meeting. Their suggestions wil be taken into consideration by the CM.
The meeting has been convened by the State government to discuss the issue in the light of a meeting of chief ministers of Karnataka and Goa convened by Maharashra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on October 21 as part of the efforts to resolve the dispute through negotiations.
The CMs meeting was convened on October 21 by Fadnavis after Prime Minister Narendra Modi instructed him to do so. The Mahadayi Tribunal instructed the three states to make an effort for a negotiated settlement on Karnataka’s plea for drawing 7.50tmcft of Mahadayi waters. Gadag, Hubballi-Dharawad, Belagavi and other northern Karnataka towns depend on the Mahadayi river for their drinking water needs.
