The Siddapura police have arrested a domestic worker and her brother-in-law for allegedly stealing gold, diamond, and silver ornaments from the home of a doctor couple in Jayanagar 1st Block.

The doctors, who had employed Anna Reddy Durga (35) from Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, for over a year, filed a complaint on July 31. They reported that on July 28, after returning from work, they found Anna missing. Her phone was switched off, and soon after, they discovered that jewellery and valuables had vanished.

Police investigations traced Anna to her sister’s residence in New Rangapur village, Telangana, where she was arrested on August 3. A portion of the stolen ornaments was recovered from her possession.

During interrogation, Anna admitted to selling a diamond ring through her sister’s husband, Santhani Venkateswara Rao (61). Acting on this lead, police arrested Rao on August 4. He confessed to selling the ring at a jewellery shop in Rangapur. By August 6, officers successfully recovered the 10.45-gram diamond ring.

In total, valuables worth ₹22 lakh have been seized so far. Both Anna and Rao were produced before court on August 7 and remanded to judicial custody.

The police continue to investigate whether more jewellery was disposed of and if other individuals were involved in the theft.

The case highlights the growing need for stronger background checks and trust verification in domestic employment in Bengaluru.
