Puttur: In a significant breakthrough, Bellare police have arrested an accused who had been evading authorities for more than five years in connection with a long-pending theft case. The arrest was made in Kerala, after an extensive and persistent manhunt.

The accused, identified as Unmesh, was wanted in Crime No. 56/2020 registered at Bellare police station under Sections 457, 380 r/w 34 of the IPC, relating to housebreaking and theft.

Despite several court summons, Unmesh consistently failed to appear, prompting the court to issue a non-bailable warrant. Acting on reliable intelligence inputs, Bellare police traced his whereabouts in Kerala and successfully apprehended him.

He was produced before the court on August 17, where he was subsequently remanded to judicial custody.

The arrest is being hailed as a noteworthy success for the police, demonstrating their commitment to tackling long-pending cases and ensuring that absconding offenders are brought to justice.
