Bengaluru: A 43-year-old car driver, who fatally stabbed his wife in front of their teenage daughter at a busy bus stand in Sunkadakatte on Monday, has surrendered to the police. The incident, which occurred in full public view, has shocked residents in the area.
Murder in public view
The accused, identified as Lohitashwa, turned himself in at the Kamakshipalya police station hours after the crime. Police said the attack took place between 11.30 am and 11.40 am when Lohitashwa stabbed his 32-year-old wife Rekha multiple times in the chest and stomach.
Eyewitnesses reported that several commuters rushed in panic as the assault unfolded at the bus stand. Rekha collapsed on the spot, and though she was rushed to a nearby hospital, she succumbed to her injuries.
Family disputes behind the crime
According to investigators, Lohitashwa and Rekha were married for several years but frequently quarrelled. On Monday morning, they had yet another heated argument at home, after which Rekha left for the bus stand with their 13-year-old daughter.
Lohitashwa followed them and allegedly reignited the fight in public. In a fit of rage, he pulled out a knife and stabbed Rekha multiple times as their daughter watched in horror.
Police investigation
After the crime, Lohitashwa fled the scene but later surrendered at the Kamakshipalya police station. The police have taken him into custody and are interrogating him to ascertain further details.
Senior officials confirmed that the accused had no prior criminal record but cited long-standing domestic discord as the motive behind the crime.
