Bengaluru: The State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation, and the Department of Horticulture will jointly organize a ‘Mango and Jack Fruit Fair’ at Lalbagh from May 25 to June 15.

Addressing a press conference here, Additional Director of Department of Horticulture K M Paramashivamurthy said, “We have bought fruits directly from the farmers. The concept of mango and jack fruit fair was initiated seven years ago and sale is increasing year-by-year.”

This year, the annual fair was delayed due to than rains in November and December last year.

“The trees flowered late and farmers didn’t get the crop in time. So, the annual fair was postponed to the month end from the beginning of the month,” he added.

He also said that in comparison to last year the mango crop yield was less this year. However, there will be enough fruits available till mid-June. “The fair would continue if we have sufficient supply of fruits. The mobility of people is good in Lalbagh and there is good demand for the fruits,” Paramashivamurthy informed.

The fruits sold at the fair will be naturally ripened, without use of any chemicals or other artificial methods, to maintain quality and sweetness of the fruit. “The 75% profit from the sale reaches the farmers,” he said and added that these kinds of fairs help to purchase fruits of various breeds in a single place. The quality of the fruits will be tested every day, he assured.
