Bengaluru: The East division police of Bengaluru are on the lookout for three officials of a Hyderabad-based private infrastructure company after obtaining arrest warrants from a local court. It may be recalled that three people were asphyxiated while cleaning a manhole on Kaggadasapura Main Road in Bengaluru a week ago.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had contracted the work to the company.
On Saturday, the city court issued arrest warrants against the officials after the police booked them under section 8 of the Prohibition of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013, in addition to Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
While the private company employees have been named as the prime accused, BWSSB officials have been booked for abetment because of negligence, said a police officer.
Anjaneya Redd (34), Dantha Yarrayya (35), and Thatta Thavitayya (40), were asphyxiated while trying to clean a manhole on Kaggadasapura Main Road in C.V. Raman Nagar Assembly constituency without any safety gears on the night of March 6.
