Meta is strengthening its presence in India by actively recruiting talent for its enterprise engineering division, which will be based in Bengaluru. This team is responsible for managing the company’s internal tools, according to a report by TechCrunch.
Historically, Meta has not regarded India as a major engineering hub, making this expansion a promising development. It signals growing opportunities for young tech professionals in the country. The hiring drive is particularly noteworthy as it follows Meta’s recent layoffs, where five percent of its global workforce was dismissed due to underperformance.
Unlike Meta’s offices in Mumbai, Gurugram, New Delhi, and Hyderabad, which have limited openings for engineers, the Bengaluru centre is offering 41 engineering positions. These include roles in machine learning, software development, and chip design for Meta’s data centres. Additionally, the company is seeking an engineering director to establish and lead the India-based engineering team.
Earlier this month, Meta made headlines by announcing its renewed focus on artificial intelligence, alongside stringent measures against underperformers. As part of this shift, around 4,000 employees across 12 countries were laid off. Despite these workforce reductions, the company’s increased hiring in India indicates its commitment to building a strong tech presence in the region.
