Bengaluru: The protest to save trees from being cut down for the Gottigere – Nagavara metro line has been resumed by a section of the congregation at All Saints’ Church and environmental activists.
On Sunday November 28, over a hundred protesters gathered to discuss the next steps. Many of them expressed their love for trees by hugging them and urging officials to find an alternative to tree felling.
Two years ago, a campaign to save the Sacred Grove, a small park on the church premises on Hosur Road began. Since then, the matter has escalated into a land dispute between the defence authorities and the Church of South India Trust Association. The association, which is the legal owner of the Church of South India’s movable and immovable assets, is accused of illegally granting the land to All Saints’ Church. The case has now reached the Supreme Court.
According to sources, the Environment Support Group, an NGO, recently launched an online petition to save the trees.
