Bengaluru: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Tanveer Sait has complained to the police that he had been receiving extortion calls for the past four days from gangster Ravi Poojari.
Sait said the men demanded to pay Rs 10 crore or face dire consequences.
The Minister on Tuesday wrote to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy and other senior police officers about the threat. Sait said that he had received four SMSs and a call from Poojari, with the threat.
A senior police officer said details of the call and messages were being verified to trace the call, and that an inquiry is under way. The complaint has been forwarded to the City Cyber police. The police sources said the call seemed to have come from an international number.
This is not the first time Poojari, who is hiding overseas, has threatened a Minister.
In October 2015 K. Abhayachandra Jain, who was then Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Affairs and Sports, had received a similar call from the gangster.
