Bengaluru: To promote cashless payment in ‘Namma Metro’, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited proposals from banks and eligible companies to provide Pre-paid instruments to metro ticket counters.
The interested companies should have the capacity for minimum 1,000 transactions through the daily mobile wallet or unified payment interface (UPI). At present, the corporation has at least two token distribution centres in each station. Only cash is being taken for a single journey at present.
For the cashless journey, the corporation has introduced smartcards already. For the sale or recharge of multiple journey smartcards, cash, debit cards or credit cards can be used. But, there was no option of using a mobile wallet and UPI payments.
For smartcard online recharge, the corporation has gateway server to build coordination between different gateways. Passengers can also recharge the website through kannada.bmrc.co.in, Karnataka one or mobile one app. ICICI and Federal bank customers can adopt automatic recharge system.
The corporation wants to introduce mobile wallet and UPI payment system in at least one counter in each station. The companies cannot apply additional charges on the customers.
To answer the queries of passengers, they have to open help counter with public relation managers. They should also have the facility to receive the complaints and provide information through mail or SMS. Moreover, the corporation has asked the companies to develop separate software to distribute and maintain token distribution system.
