BJP national president J P Nadda’s visit to Bengaluru sparked intrigue, with his agenda centered on private, one-on-one interactions with key party leaders. While formal group discussions were absent, leaders briefed him on pressing state issues, such as the MUDA and Valmiki corporation scams, Sachin Panchal’s suicide case, and growing intra-party conflicts.
Opposition Leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy revealed that Nadda stressed the need for unity within the Karnataka BJP unit. However, the conspicuous absence of dissenting figures like MLAs Basangouda Patil Yatnal, Ramesh Jarkiholi, and their supporters became a talking point. Insiders suggested the central leadership, already updated on these matters, deemed further discussions unnecessary. Despite speculations, the Yatnal-Jarkiholi disputes were not formally addressed but remain on the central leadership’s radar.
A surprising moment during Nadda’s stay at the Kumarakrupa guest house was the unexpected appearance of RR Nagar MLA Munirathna, known for his controversial history. Sources suggested Munirathna’s presence was a strategic signal to the party leadership, underscoring his expectation of support amid challenges.
Narayanaswamy dismissed rumors of internal strife, asserting, “If differences existed, leaders would have approached Nadda. We are united.” He also clarified that Nadda’s primary visit purpose was personal but included discussions on the BJP’s role as the opposition.
As Nadda prepares to pass the baton to his successor, unresolved issues like party discipline and internal dissent seem poised to escalate to the highest levels, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
