Bengaluru: Home Minister G. Parameshwara during his first meeting with senior police officers in the state on Friday, said that the police department must keep an eye on communal forces which are on rise in Mangaluru and Belagavi regions.
“These forces are intolerant and trying to defame the State by attacking minorities. Sporadic communal incidents have been occurring, proving to be a challenge to the State. The police should ensure safety of the minorities, he said.
Addressing the officials at the police headquarters in Bengaluru, Home Minister warned officers to stay away from real estate business and said, “I know several police officers are involved in real estate business. Take this as a warning. It will not be tolerated and strict action will be taken against them.”
“There are instances where police officers have an unholy nexus with the real estate sector, sand mafia and anti-social elements for vested interest. If the police, who are supposed to protect the interest of the society, are involved in such things then how can they do justice to their duty,” he said.
Home minister also said that his government’s first priority is to protect the interest of minorities, women, children, and farmers. Also safeguarding people migrating to the city is the responsibility of the State, he said.
“A trivial issue could snowball into a bigger problem. The State has had to face embarrassing situations like the mass exodus of people from the northeast some time ago,” he added.
The State was proposing setting up multi-specialty hospitals exclusively for police personnel in every district. It would be on par with the hospital for armed forces, he said.
