New assembly speaker to be elected on July 31

Bengaluru: As Ramesh Kumar stepped down from the post of Karnataka Assembly Speaker, here on Monday, July 29, officially announcing his resignation, after Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa proved his majority on the floor of the house, the process of electing a new assembly speaker will be carried out on July 31.

Deputy Speaker Krishna Reddy announced on the floor of the house that the election process of electing a new assembly speaker would commence on July 31, after former speaker Ramesh Kumar resigned from his chair and left to Hyderabad to attend Late Jaipal Reddy’s last rites.

Deputy Speaker Krishna Reddy said that the timeframe for the candidates to file the nomination was open till tomorrow i.e, Tuesday, July 30 noon.

As the former speaker Ramesh Kumar had announced after resigning that the proceedings of the house would resume at 5 PM, Deputy Speaker Krishna Reddy who was given the charge conducted the house proceedings and announced the process of electing new assembly speaker and adjourned the house till Wednesday, July 31, 11 AM.

Earlier, in the house, before resigning, former speaker Ramesh Kumar also passed the finance bill which was presented by CM BSY, after which there were minor arguments between the ruling and the opposition of presenting a supplementary budget.
