Bengaluru: The State Government has handed over the investigation of the murder of Bajrang Dal worker Hindu Harsha in Shivamogga on February 20 to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA has registered a formal complaint in Harsha’s murder case in a New Delhi Court on Wednesday March 23. The NIA is likely to seek custody of the arrested for further investigations. Earlier in the beginning of March, the State Police has invoked sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, against 10 accused who were arrested.

The invoking of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in March was seen as the first step taken towards handing over case to NIA. It can be recalled that a request in writing was made by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer Development Shobha Karandlaje to Union Home Minister Amit Shah seeking NIA probe into the murder.

Authorities in the State have decided to shift 10 accused persons in the murder case to the Central Prison in the Parappana Agrahara, located in the outskirts of Bengaluru. The State Government had invoked the UAPA against the 10 accused persons.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai had also stated that once the local police complete their investigations, the case would be handed over to Central agencies.
