Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said the city has more than one crore population but the number of property tax payers is not as per the expectations.
Launching E Governance Applications, a renewed website to provide services to citizens in a simplified method, at a function organized by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) at the Town Hall, the chief minister advised the people not to cheat the BBMP while paying the tax. “The BBMP had to provide services in a fixed time to avoid inconvenience to the public. Governance should be transparent and the officials should function as per the public demand. It is the duty of the officials to receive feedback from the public on the developmental taken up by the civic body,’’ the chief minister said.
The BBMP has designed the website in association with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The chief minister has advised the BMBP officials to be responsible to the people of Bengaluru. “I want the public not just expect services from the BMBP officials but also to cooperate with them. I want the BBMP officials to ensure that small issues should not be blown out of proportion. I want the people to pay property tax promptly,’’ he said.
He also advised M K Gunasekhar, chairman, standing committee for taxation and finance, BBMP, to take measures for improving collection of property tax and other taxes.
Meanwhile, Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar said the BBMP has taken measures to implement e-governance. “Now, the BBMP revenue officials need not go to door to door to enquire whether the property owners paid the tax. They can verify it at their offices due to the implementation of e-governance,’’ the minister said.
