Bengaluru: IG-DGP Neelamani N Raju issued a circular making trousers and shirts compulsory for the women constables and prohibiting khaki sarees.

As per the new order issued on October 16, women constables are barred from leaving their hair open and wearing glass bangles. However, metal bangles are allowed.

“Wearing flowers too has been banned. They can wear a small bindi but they must neatly tie their hair with black net,” read the order, which also specifies that women can dye their hair black and not opt for any other colour.

According to the sources, the department held several rounds of meetings on the women constable uniform.

“It is a very sensitive issue. Women constables also attend crime detection, riot control etc. Wearing saree always creates a lot of problems for them. Keeping the departmental discipline in mind, this new dress code has been finalised,” said sources.
