Bengaluru: “I am not against any project which could help decongest city traffic. In fact, we badly need a flyover on Airport Road to ease traffic,” said Union Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda reacting to ongoing issue of steel flyover.
Before the National Green Tribunal granted an interim stay on the flyover on Friday, Gowda said, “I am not against any project which could help decongest city traffic. In fact, we badly need a flyover on Airport Road to ease traffic. But before implementing any project, including steel bridge, the state government should clear people’s doubts.” Minister K.J. George has said I have supported the project, but he has misread my statement. During a meeting, I only said before going ahead with the project, the government should take the public and opposition into confidence. I am not with the government in chopping down 800 trees to construct the steel flyover,” he said.
BJP, other opposition parties along with some of the organisations have opposed the project. The Chennai-based southern bench of the National Green Tribunal on Friday stayed the controversial steel bridge project in the city for four weeks over environmental concerns.
