Bengaluru: The textbook review committee headed by Rohit Chakrathirtha has not been suspended, but has been dissolved in the wake of its term, said Higher Education Minister Dr. C. N. Ashwath Narayan on Saturday June 4.

Speaking to mediapersons he said, “Our government will work to rectify whatever confusions that have formed over textbook content. Chief Minister has already released a statement in this regard.  The committee’s term ended, and it has submitted a report. As a result, the committee has been dissolved rather than suspended. Any objections, problems, or hurt feelings created by the contents of the textbooks will be taken into account. It will be essential for the government to be pro-people.”

He also informed that people will be taken into confidence on this matter, and the cybercrime wing has been instructed to file cases if anyone violates peace, law, and order, or does anything that disturbs others’ feelings, he said.

“The government’s contention is not to divide the society, but to take all into confidence and move forward. There aren’t any problems or disturbances. If there are any doubts, the government will respond to them. In light of current proposals, the department will take the necessary measures. The committee consisted of four to six persons, therefore it isn’t a question of one person,” he remarked.

To a query over committee members’ RSS allegiance, the Minister said, “We are all from RSS only. But we are working to join all together and build a stronger society and strengthen power in the country.

“It is not correct to say on those lines, but our base is RSS. When we are in government, we serve the people and the nation by taking everyone into confidence. Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh is the acronym for Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh. People of all religions and castes are on board,” he remarked when asked if everyone is working under RSS’s guidance.

On the Opposition parties targeting RSS, Ashwath Narayan said,” Those who make statements should have clarity in their stand, understand what is right and wrong. They are making allegations to be in the news. We condemn their statements completely. People are aware of their actions during their term in government. Instead of working for others, they amassed wealth. As a result, they were rejected,” said the Minister.

Anil Benake, MLA for Belagavi North, and Mahantesh Kavatagimath, former MLC, were present.
