Earlier report

Bengaluru: The All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists have called for a nationwide 24-hour bandh on Wednesday October 14, against the Union government’s policy that has allowed the sale of drugs online. The Bruhat Bengaluru Chemists and Druggists Association (BBCDA) too have joined this protest by pharmacies from across the state.

The bandh has been called as the government has failed to anticipate the dangers of making drugs available online. This facility would not only cause pharmacists to face losses, but cause patients to suffer because if they buy drugs online, there would be none to verify the doctor’s prescription.

BBCDA president M K Mayanna said, “There is corporate lobby behind the idea of making drugs available online. And the Narendra Modi-headed NDA government is going full throttle to not only murder the small druggists and chemists but also putting the lives of people at risk. We want such decisions to be scrapped.”

BBCDA general secretary K Harish Kumar said a memorandum was submitted to state Drug Controller Raghuram Bhandari to appeal to the Union government to think this issue over.
