Mysuru: Observing that farmer suicides have increased over the last two years, the government has decided to enhance relief to farmers families and it will bear the educational expenses of children of deceased farmers and the health insurance of the kin of the farmers, said CM Siddaramaiah after inaugurating the 10-day long Mysuru Dasara festivities on October 13.
The compensation amount has been increased from Rs 2 lakhs to Rs 5 lakhs. Farmers should be in touch with agricultural and related department officials. Agriculture Price Panel has been constituted to fix the remunerative prices for agriculture crops. Loans upto 3lakhs without interest and from 3 to 10lakhs with 3% interest is available for the farmers.

“Suicide is not the answer to farmers problems. They should think of the family that they leave behind them, before taking such an extreme step. This year, as many as 596 farmers have ended lives. They should face problems with courage and adopt integrated farming methods”, he said.

In the state 136 taluks have been declared as drought affected, where crop worth Rs 16,000 has been destroyed. “We have spent 500 to 600 crores for the drought relief works from the government’s treasury. We have also sought Rs 3850 crores compensation from the central government”, he added.
