Bengaluru — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the much-anticipated Yellow Line of the Bangalore Metro and launched the Vande Bharat Express service connecting Bengaluru and Belagavi. He also virtually commenced two other Vande Bharat trains — Amritsar to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra and Ajni (Nagpur) to Pune.

During his visit, the PM took a metro ride to Electronic City station, experiencing the new corridor first-hand.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Yellow Line — spanning from RV Road (Ragigudda) to Bommasandra under Phase-2 — covers more than 19 km and includes 16 stations. Built at a cost of around ₹7,160 crore, the new line expands Bengaluru’s operational metro network to over 96 km, catering to a significant urban population.

Officials stated that the Yellow Line will substantially reduce congestion along busy routes such as Hosur Road, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City Junction.

PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for Bangalore Metro Phase-3, known as the Orange Line, estimated at ₹15,611 crore. The project will stretch over 44 km with 31 elevated stations, addressing the city’s growing transit demands across residential, commercial, industrial, and educational zones.

Phase-3 will consist of two corridors — JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura (32.15 km) and Hosahalli to Kadabagere (12.5 km).

Later, the Prime Minister was scheduled to visit IIIT Bengaluru, attend official events, and then fly back to Delhi via HAL Airport at 2:45 pm.
