Bengaluru: A day after former finance minister P Chidambaram issued a statement saying that the Congress party has not officially declared AICC president Rahul Gandhi as their prime ministerial candidate, the Congress leadership is now in damage control mode. Responding to the statement, Deputy Chief Minister Dr G Parameshwar made it clear to the reporters that the statement issued by Chidambaram is personal and has nothing to do with the party.
“RaGa is the AICC president and the party’s prime ministerial candidate. He will become prime minister in 2019,” Parameshwara stated.
“Whatever Chidambaram stated is his personal opinion. It does not reflect party’s official stand,” he said.
Dr G Parameshwar also declined to comment on the rape charges registered against AICC state in-charge KC Venugopal. “Don’t ask me such questions,” he said.
