Bengaluru: Centre’s decision to reject Narayana Guru tableau at the Republic Day parade as proposed by the Kerala Government seems to become a major political controversy in Karnataka where Ediga community is in large numbers in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, and Uttara Kannada Districts. Two former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and H. D. Kumaraswamy have strongly condemned the Centre’s decision stating that it is an insult to the reformist movement.
In two separate tweets both the leaders urged the Central Government to reconsider its decision and allow the tableau. Both the leaders expressed shock over the decision saying Narayana Guru is the greatest reformer of mankind. They recalled Guru’s contribution towards social reforms in India.
Ediga community is spread across the State and one of the important backward communities in the State. The Centre’s decision has resulted in anger among the community which follow the ideals of Guru.
