In today’s fast-paced world, reckless driving and dangerous stunts on public roads have become a significant safety issue. The rise of social media has amplified this problem, as individuals increasingly record and share videos of their risky behaviour for attention. Reckless driving—whether through speeding, stunts, or driving under the influence—puts everyone at risk, not just the drivers. A recent incident in Banashankari, Bengaluru, perfectly illustrates this dangerous trend.
A video shared on Twitter by Karnataka Portfolio captured two young individuals performing risky stunts on a busy road in Banashankari. One rider is seen doing a “sit-down wheelie” on a scooter, balancing it on its rear wheel while seated—an act that severely compromises control and could result in a crash. Despite warnings from the person filming, the riders continued their dangerous behaviour. The incident took place around 8:22 PM near Monotype, an area with heavy traffic, increasing the risk to pedestrians, vehicles, and other road users.
The video quickly went viral, accumulating over 40,000 views, and sparking widespread public outrage. Many social media users criticized the riders, calling for legal action and stricter enforcement. Some questioned the effectiveness of AI surveillance cameras, arguing that authorities often fail to act until videos of incidents are shared online. This frustration underscores a systemic issue in proactive traffic enforcement.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police have acknowledged the incident, tagging the Banashankari Traffic Police Station to signal an investigation. However, public sentiment remains skeptical, with many urging for faster responses and more stringent laws. This incident highlights the growing need for both stricter traffic regulations and more responsible behaviour from the community, particularly parents ensuring their children understand the dangers of such reckless actions.
