Bengaluru: A massive rally was organised on Friday at the Freedom Park in Bangalore in support of their demand. Thousands of AHIMSA activists and employees from general and non-SC/ST categories participated in the rally.
AHIMSA, an organisation of people from general category, backward classes and minorities has demanded the implementation of Supreme Court order on job promotions.
AHIMSA State President M. Nagaraj Said the present quota of job reservation was unfair to employees from 82 per cent categories as the existing policy on job reservation was heavily loaded against employees from other communities as they had to wait for 20 years to get their first promotion.
The protestors demanded that the State Government not to cut the share of promotions of minorities, backward classes and general categories and give it to SC/ST employees.
They demanded the withdrawal of Government decision to reserve more number of jobs for SC/ST employees than they were eligible in view of the Supreme Court decision.
They said that more number of SC/St employees than actually eligible had been promoted to senior positions due to wrong reservation policy adopted by the state government in promotions.
The State Government was supposed to reserve 15 per cent of the posts for SCs and three per cent of the posts to STs in Promotions. In many cases, more than 80 % of the posts were given to SC/ST which the Supreme Court judgement has reversed.
Kolad Matt Shanthaveera Swaiji, Retd IPS Officer Prakash Mirji, Ahimsa Vice president E. Doddanagaiah, Pavithra B.K Were present on the occasion.
Minister for Bengaluru Development K.J George visited the agitators and received the memorandum.
