Bengaluru: In a surprising move, a person knocked the doors of the High Court on Tuesday for seeking respite from noise pollution due to vehicle movement.

The complainant, H Mohan Krishna, a resident of Chikkasandra on Hesaraghatta Main Road has sought directions against noise pollution due to vehicle movement, including a direction to issue a certificate to vehicle owners for compliance of the noise level standards. The PIL was adjourned by the division bench of Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice R B Budihal.

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Chief Secretary, Transport Department, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Commissioner of Police, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Central Pollution Control Board, Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation are the respondents in the petition.

The petitioner in his petition has mentioned that the number of vehicles in Karnataka increased from 39.96 lakhs in 2001 to 147.84 lakhs to 2015 and in Bengaluru from 15.96 to 55.59 lakhs, contributing to noise from vehicular movement and honking. He also stated that the vehicles disturb the surrounding areas and make noise more than the supposed noise limit of 47 decibels.
