In a significant announcement, the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise revealed that they would now be known as Royal Challengers Bengaluru starting from IPL 2024. This marks the first change in the team’s name since its inception in 2008.
The announcement was made following an event held at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, attended by notable figures including Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and recently crowned WPL champion Smriti Mandhana, along with other members from both the men’s and women’s teams.
During the event, RCB also honored former Karnataka and India fast bowler R Vinay Kumar as the third entrant into their hall of fame. This follows last season’s induction of AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle as the inaugural entrants.
RCB’s journey for the upcoming IPL season commenced as they departed for Chennai on Tuesday evening to prepare for their opening encounter against defending champions Chennai Super Kings on March 22. The team has a busy schedule in the first leg of the tournament, with five games scheduled, which is joint-most among all teams.
Following their opening match, RCB will return to Bengaluru for games against Punjab Kings (March 25), Kolkata Knight Riders (March 29), and Lucknow Super Giants (April 2) before heading to Jaipur for an away match against Rajasthan Royals on April 6.
