S Umashankar, the new administrator of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), took charge on Wednesday. Immediately after assuming his role, he issued directives to all officials and civic agencies to prioritize addressing monsoon-related issues.
Umashankar instructed all eight zonal commissioners to attend to rain-related problems, such as uprooted trees and potholes, to ensure the public is not inconvenienced. He also directed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to ensure the supply of clean drinking water and promptly address water contamination complaints.
“All departments like BBMP, BWSSB, Forest, and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company have been instructed to coordinate better while addressing rain-related issues during the monsoon,” Umashankar stated. The zonal commissioners will lead the efforts, desilting stormwater drains, clearing bottlenecks for water flow, and removing roadside debris.
