Bengaluru: The evening of April 13 was an evening of perfection, dedication, performance, discipline, grace, hard work and soulful classical dance at the Indian Consulate Auditorium, as the pupils of Sankeerna School of Classical Dance presented their annual day “Thathva” under the tutelage of Vidhushi Sapna Kiran.
The programme started with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the guests. The show began with “Pushpanjali”, in which the dancers devotedly offered their obeisance to the lord of dance Nataraja, the guru and to the audience.
The budding talents gave sequence of powerful performances. In the “Kali Kauthuvam,” Parvati took the form of Kaali to demolish Rakthabeeja, whereas the dancers invoked blessings from Lord Vishnu through the “Ganesha Kauthuvam” and “Thodaya Mangalam.”
Soulful renditions of the medieval poet Kanaka Dasa’s “Devi Sarasvati Stuti” and Purandara Dasa’s popular compositions “Adavu” and “Azhagu Deva” mesmerised the audience.
The students also performed the popular hymns “Bhagyada Laxmi Baramma,” “Adida Nadida” and “ Govinda Ninna” with devotion to the deities.
“Aiyagiri Nandini”, “Vishamkara Kannan”, “Flute Dance” and “Kuravanji” added versatility to the show.
The breathtaking performance of “Dharmakshetra”, which depicted the Geethopadesha at the war field by Krishna to Arjuna, brought the audience to the edge of their seats.
In her address, Bharatnatyam artiste and founder member of BHAVA, Chandra Subramani expressed her happiness on the quality of the programme and dedication of the guru Sapna Kiran. She appreciated budding artistes and gave her word of encouragement and guidance.
Sharing his experience, N Mohan recalled his long association with Sankeerna and expressed happiness for their growth and wished them success.
Vidushi Sapna Kiran proposed a vote of thanks and extended her gratitude to her parents who encouraged her to take up classical dance and the gurus, who made her a dancer par excellence.
Sruti Karthik compered the programme, whose detailed explanation of each dance form and persuasive language captivated the audience.
