Bengaluru: “Sex workers are worst affected and seen as criminals. We need to be sympathetic towards this community. We need to look at sexual minorities too as they are worst affected, and our policy needs to be comprehensive one. All those who are involved in this trade, be it Devadasis, sex workers or sexual minorities must be covered,” said Congress MLC and actress Jayamala here on Friday.

Jayamala after being felicitated by Women and child welfare minister Umashree said that she was honoured to head committee. The policy to protect sex workers to be formulated would be a comprehensive one.

Earlier minister Umashree on the same occasion declared that a comprehensive policy to protect the rights of sex-workers and sexual minorities including transgenders will be formulated soon, which will be headed by Jayamala.

Speaking to reporters minister said, “The state government is not in a hurry to announce its policy to protect the rights of sex workers. The biggest problem faced by the members of this community is whether sex trade should be legalised or not? The state government is looking for an answer to this question. I can only assure that the state government will be sympathetic at this juncture,” she added.
