Bengaluru: The process of consultation on revision of wages for over six lakh state government employees has begun.

The State government constituted the pay commission, under former IAS officer M.R.Srinivas Mjrthy, on June 1 for which Rs. 26 crore has been earmarked in the budget.

The commission will officially begin the process of consultation on revision of pay scales from July 27 by meeting registered government employees’ unions.

Murthy told presspersons here on Saturday that though the previous pay commissions took more than a year to submit their reports, the commission headed by him would make every effort to submit the report at the earliest, as the government had set a four-month deadline for it.

The commission has prepared a detailed questionnaire and will ask government employees and employee organisations to respond to it at the earliest, besides uploading it on the official website. It was decided to gather reports from them by August-end.

The commission has also decided to take responses from MPs, MLAs, MLCs and secretaries to the government, besides seeking responses from the general public, he said.

Apart from government employees, over 5 lakh pensioners and 1.5 lakh employees of local bodies, aided educational institutions and non-teaching staff in universities would benefit from this wage revision.

Murthy dismissed the possibility of submitting an interim report. He said that the commission would also make recommendations on effective functioning of government departments and increasing efficiency of employees.
