‘Smart Card’ passes for BMTC commuters?

Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) is planning to issue smart cards instead of paper tickets and passes.

BMTC Director (Information Technology) Tanusree Deb Barma said that ‘closed loop smart cards’ with variety of passes will be rolled out in the next three to six months. The new entrants include kilometre-based time-based and trip-based passes.

Online recharge options are also to be introduced. However, some people are sceptical about the smart cards, as the BMTC had assured of similar changes earlier too.
