Bengaluru: The social media is as much a bane as it is a boon and children being very susceptible to cyber risks, it is imperative for the parents and schools to educate them about the risks involved apart from protecting them from being cyber bullied.
With all this in mind, a draft copy of the Karnataka Educational Institutions’ (division, registration, accreditation to primary and high schools, control, setting syllabus) Amendment Bill 2017 has sought that state schools block social websites and porn sites at the computer labs in their premises apart from maintaining a vigil on the students when they use the computer. Further, it stresses on increasing awareness among parents regarding the possibilities of misuse of technology.
“Awareness regarding the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act must be created among the parents as well as children. One should keep an eye on the behaviour of children. As harassment cases involving children is on the rise, more importance should be given for cyber-security”, the draft states.
Meanwhile, this Act has decreased the minimum land requirement policy to begin a school. Amendments have also been done regarding registration fees, renewal of permission and regarding following the traffic policy.
