What should have been the end of another long night shift turned into an irreversible tragedy for 26-year-old Gagan, who was fatally knocked down by a speeding SUV in the early hours of Friday.

Gagan, an employee at Access Warehouse Pvt Ltd, was riding home in the pre-dawn hours when a Mahindra XUV allegedly rammed his two-wheeler from behind. According to police, the impact was so severe that he collapsed on the spot, sustaining a critical head injury. He reportedly died due to excessive bleeding before medical assistance could reach him.

His body was later shifted to MVJ Medical College and Research Hospital for post-mortem.

A pillar of strength at home

Beyond the accident reports and investigation details, Gagan was the backbone of his family. He was the sole earning member in a household of four. His visually impaired mother depended entirely on him, while he also supported his sister and ageing parents.

Despite his demanding warehouse job, Gagan would often help his father in their small rose fields, balancing long shifts with agricultural responsibilities. Relatives described him as resilient and deeply committed to securing a stable future for his family.

“He was not just earning; he was building a future for all of us,” a relative said, holding back tears. “He was not at fault. Speeding and reckless driving by others took him away.”

Grief beyond words

At the mortuary, Gagan’s father struggled to process the loss. “It is our fate. I do not know what happened. They analysed his body, wrapped it up, and gave it to us,” he said quietly.

As investigations continue, the tragedy has once again highlighted the devastating human cost of overspeeding and reckless driving on Karnataka’s highways.
