Bengaluru: After a gap of five months, the guest faculty working in the government first-grade colleges will get a partial honorarium. The state government has directed all the college principals to pay 15 days’ salary between September 2018 and January 2019.
According to sources in the Department of Collegiate Education (DCE), these guest faculties have not been paid since September 2018. “For the partial payment, the state government released Rs 22.33 crores. This means the faculties will get 15 days’ salary,” said the sources.
“All the college principals have been directed to pay the amount to the college faculties immediately and send the report to the commissioner’s office,” informed a senior officer from the DCE.
“We have warned the principals of disciplinary action if there is any further delay in the release of the honorarium,” added the officer.
Presently, guest faculties with a qualification of NET/SLET/PhD are paid Rs 13,000 as monthly honorarium while those with just a master’s degree are paid Rs 11,000.
According to the guest lecturers, the biggest problem they are facing is the delay in the release of payment. “Rs 13,000 or Rs 11,000 is not enough for anything. But what is adding to our miseries is the delayed payment,” said Gurunath, a guest faculty from a city college.
