Bengaluru: The state government has rejected the controversial Prof. Kasturi Rangan report with regard to the protection of the Western Ghats. The state government has communicated its decision to the union ministry of forest and ecology regarding the same.
According to sources, a cabinet sub committee, headed by forest minister R Shankar, decided to recommend that the state government reject the notification issued by the union government. This is the fourth time that the central government has issued a notification.
“Keeping in mind the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the state government decided to reject the report as it may affect the Congress-JDS fortunes in the coastal and Malnad districts. The real interest of the ecology has been sidelined for political interests” informed sources.
