Bengaluru: The state government is planning to provide milk and ghee to pregnant women, free of cost.
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Sericulture A Manju, presiding over a meeting with representatives of 13 milk unions here on Saturday, informed that the plan was discussed during the meeting and the final call will be taken after discussing the same with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
“The idea to provide ghee is in line with the belief that babies grow quickly and also gain weight,” he said.
Minister Manju said that it was made mandatory for all milk producers who are receiving Rs.4 as incentive per litre from the government to insure their cattle. While 50 per cent of the premium will have to be borne by farmers, the state government and the milk unions will bear 25 per cent each, he added.
