Bengaluru: The state government has the target of constructing 6.50 lakh houses for poor in one-and-half years, according to Minister for Housing M Krishnappa.
Speaking to media persons after performing Ayudha pooja at his chambers on Vidhana Soudha premises, Minister Krishnappa said the state government had handed over the government land recovered from encroachers to Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation. “The government is contemplating to distribute this land to around 40,000 poor people who have no shelter in Bengaluru,’’ the minister said.
He said the government plans to construct 20,000 houses for poor in rural areas in memory of late former chief minister Devaraj Urs. “The Karnataka Housing Board has prepared a plan for constructing homes for poor. The state government had constructed 8 lakh houses for poor during the last three-and-half years,’’ he said.
He said that he was ready to take up the responsibility of any district. “I did not demand the chief minister to appoint me as the in-charge minister of a particular district,’’ he said.
