Bengaluru: The state government has returned the BBMP’s budget for the year 2019-20, asking them to bring down the budget to below Rs 9,000 crores.
This means that the BBMP now needs to formulate a new budget and send it to the state government for approval.
According to sources, the BBMP had sent a budget of Rs 12,954 crores to the state government for approval. The budget size was originally set at Rs 10,691 crores and was revised to Rs 12,954 crores a few minutes before approval by the BBMP council.
Now, the state urban development department and finance department have unanimously rejected the budget stating, terming it as unrealistic. The state government has therefore asked the BBMP to send a more realistic budget for approval.
