Bengaluru: A day after banning online classes for students up to Class 5, the state government is now planning to extend the ban till Class 7.
It is learnt that a few ministers had suggested that the ban be extended in the state till Class 7. The issue was discussed during a Cabinet meeting attended by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and a decision regarding the same will be made later.
In Wednesday’s announcement, the government had also added that collection of fees for online classes will also be prohibited with immediate effect. Pre-recorded classes will continue to be held for these classes until further notice.
The development comes after it came to light that some schools have been holding online classes for students of lower grades and even for Classes 4 to 7.
Reportedly, many parents across the state had complained about the online classes and on June 2, a meeting was held with experts in the education field, psychiatrists and others to discuss the same.
While some sections of the media had earlier reported that the ban has been extended till Class 7, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar clarified in a tweet that the ban extension was merely a suggestion and that the ban is only applicable for students studying in LKG to Class 5.
