State to reduce deficiency of power: Governor Vajubhai Vala

Bengaluru: The state government has commissioned new projects to reduce deficiency of power with a vision – Power to all by 2020, according to Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala.

Speaking after unfurling the tricolor and receiving the guard of honour to mark the 68th Republic Day at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Ground here, Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala said the state government has taken steps to increase additional generation capacity of 3657 MW from various sources like strengthening of transmission network, Ganga Kalyana Scheme, energisation of drinking water supply installations and irrigation pump sets, establishment of transformer banks and repair centers.

The governor said the state has achieved commendable milestone in making Swachh Karnataka on the lines of Swachh Bharat and Mysuru city has been awarded as the best and first cleanest city in the country and we must feel proud of this feat. “Smart City Mission project has been envisioned to provide hassle-free smart solutions at reasonable cost in respect of delivery of services and building of infrastructure in six cities such as Mangaluru, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Hubballi-Dharwad, Tumakuru and Davangere and the state has released Rs 776 crore for this scheme during 2016-17 and Rs 1188 crore will be provided during 2017-18,’’ the Governor said.

He said the state stands No. 1 in investment intentions from January to September 2016 with an investment of more than Rs 1.40 lakh crore creating 15 lakh jobs thus emerging as a role model for other states. “Karnataka is the forerunner in the country to establish Rashtriya e-market services for APMC management online. Farmer producer organization along with custom hiring centre has been established in order to provide agricultural inputs from harvest to post harvest to the farmers,’’ he said.

The governor said the state continues to lead the country in IT & BT sectors that have been growing at the rate of 10 per cent to 12 per cent a year providing new 70,000 jobs every year. “Karnataka Global Information System (GIS), a flagship programme of the state government is the first of its kind mission in the country that provides common platform networking for the departments and citizens for sharing geo spatial information based governance,’’ he said.
