Bengaluru: As Centre is chalking out ways to impose Hindi in non-Hindi regions of the country, the Kannada Development Authority in the state is sharpening its knives to roll heads of non-Kannada speaking staffers employed in the banking sector.
The KDA, on Monday asked the regional heads of nationalised, rural and scheduled banks to make it mandatory for non-Kannada-speaking staffers to learn the language in six months.
A circular from KDA Chairman S G Siddaramaiah stated that if any employee fails to learn Kannada in six months, then such an employee must be relieved from services in accordance with the recruitment rules.
The authority, has further said that a Kannada unit must be set up in all the bank branches in the manner Hindi units were opened throughout the country when Hindi was implemented.
The authority said, banks must follow the three-language formula in all advertisements and also implement the Dr Sarojini Mahishi report that says all Group `C’ and `D’ posts must be given to local applicants.
