Bengaluru: With the state reeling under acute shortage of sand, the government is calking out ways to meet the demand and in its latest attempt the state government has decided to import sand from Malaysia.
Minister for Law T B Jayachandra, speaking about the same said that the tender process for procuring of sand has been completed. The sand imported from Malaysia will cost Rs 3500 per ton and the same will be distributed on the Public Distribution system model through the MSIL.
A detailed procedure needs to be followed for procuring sand from the MSIL, which will be made public soon, said the Minister adding that the only the ones who fulfill the procedure will be supplied sand.
At present, a ton of high quality sand costs about Rs 10,000 and a load (lorry) of sand costs about Rs 70,000. The sky-rocketing of price of sand had left the entire construction sector high and dry.
