Recent heavy rains across H.D. Kote taluk and the Nagarahole forest region have brought the Taraka reservoir within five feet of reaching full capacity.

The reservoir, which plays a vital role in supporting agriculture in the area, stands 125 feet tall and holds up to 3.95 TMC of water, covering about 18,000 acres. Officials reported that water levels have now risen to 120 feet, with an inflow of 300 cusecs.

Unlike the Kabini and Nugu reservoirs that filled completely two weeks ago, Taraka had remained below capacity due to only moderate rainfall earlier in the season, causing concern among local farmers.

Thanks to continuous showers over the past three days, the reservoir has now approached the filling mark, offering relief to the farming community relying on it for irrigation.
