In a stark warning about the perils of dashing across busy roads, a 17-year-old PU student was seriously injured on Wednesday morning after being struck by a BMTC bus near Jigani, along Harapanahalli Main Road.

The teenager, a resident of Nisarga Layout and enrolled at a private college, was attempting to catch his college bus when the incident occurred. CCTV footage, which later went viral, shows the boy parking his bicycle and locking it while a yellow college bus waited across the street.

As the bus began moving, the boy waved frantically and sprinted to catch it. While crossing, he collided with the left side of an oncoming BMTC bus traveling in the opposite direction.

“If he had been a few seconds earlier, the impact could have been fatal as he would have been hit head-on,” a police officer noted. The student collapsed dangerously close to the rear wheels of the bus.

A man who had just dropped his daughter at the same stop witnessed the accident and immediately rushed over with the BMTC crew to help. They quickly transported the injured boy to the hospital.

Police confirmed the teen is out of danger, but no formal complaint has yet been filed as the family has asked for time. Preliminary findings suggest the BMTC bus was moving swiftly, and the driver likely did not see the boy in time.
