Bengaluru: Finally, it looks like the BJP national leaders have been able to rein in Tejaswini Ananthkumar, wife of late Union minister Ananth Kumar. If sources in the BJP are to be believed, Tejaswini has agreed to campaign for Tejasvi Surya, keeping in mind the larger interest of the party.
Surya is the BJP’s candidate from the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency. It can be recalled that, apart from Tejaswini, many of the party leaders and supporters of Ananth Kumar were upset with the party’s decision. Tejaswini had even reportedly made it clear that she would not campaign for the BJP unless the party’s high command communicated to her directly, why she was passed over as a candidate.
According to sources, party national president Amith Shah called Tejaswini on Monday, April 1 night, a few hours before his road show in the Bengaluru South Lok Sabha constituency. “He requested Tejaswini not to stay neutral in the campaign, as it may hurt the party’s fortunes. He explained the rationale behind selecting Tejasvi Surya and assured her of a better position in the party in the coming days,” said sources in the state BJP unit.
Shah is expected to call on Tejaswini on Tuesday at her residence. “She is expected to re-launch the campaign on Wednesday,” said sources.
