Three youths have been arrested by the Ramanagara police in connection with the beating death of R Puneeth, a 22-year-old final-year BCom student from Rajajinagar. Puneeth had gone to a farmhouse in Chikkenahalli village to celebrate the Deepawali holidays when the incident occurred.
Puneeth was accompanied by his friend Ankith and five other students from a private college in Basaveshwaranagar, including two girls. On the night of October 26, three men forcibly entered the farmhouse while the group was enjoying themselves, particularly the girls who were swimming in the pool. The intruders began recording the girls, prompting objections from Puneeth and his friends.
According to the complaint filed by Jivan, a member of the group, the men claimed to be locals and questioned the permission granted for the gathering. They verbally abused the girls and violently attacked the boys with wooden logs. During the assault, Puneeth was struck on the head and lost consciousness. He was taken to a nearby hospital in Kengeri, where he succumbed to his injuries on October 31.
The arrested suspects, identified as Murali, Chandu, and Nagesh, are now in judicial custody at Ramanagara district prison. Jivan reported that when they attempted to take Puneeth to the hospital, the attackers threatened to kill them.
Puneeth, who aspired to become a chartered accountant, was the son of an autorickshaw driver, as shared by his family with the police.
