Bengaluru: Today was day one of the now mandatory FASTag services, all over the country. In Bengaluru, traffic jams were witnessed at several places, as even the FASTag lanes were clogged with vehicles.
The Tumakuru Road toll plaza near Kennametal Widia factory was the worse hit because of the Sankranthi holiday.
Apparently, several non-FASTag vehicles had meandered into the FASTag lanes as the lines were shorter. When they were asked to pay double, they moved to the cahs lane, forcing other cars to stop mid-way and ultimately leading to a massive jam.
Verbal altercations also broke out between the toll plaza employees and vehicle owners, who refused to pay the surcharge.
NHAI officials say that until more people adopt FASTag, traffic jams at the toll plazas will be a common sight.
